Continuing to learn is something I believe we all must do to keep our brains healthy and functioning for a long time. Even if you just learn one new thing each day–you increase your knowledge and power. Through my journey, I have had the opportunity to learn what makes my body mad and inflamed. I had a food allergy test and had a few ideas what was causing my gut and body to be inflamed, but I had no idea to the extent of it.
I have fought with the idea of fully submerging myself into a Paleo/Clean eating lifestyle. Now I must because my body will depend on it to function at its fullest effort. Seeing a list that says must avoid with the following foods is quite shocking. Must avoid: Gluten, Grapefruit, Malt, Milk(Cow), Mustard, Oats, Rye, Watermelon, Wheat, yeast, eggplant, crab, and beans. Wow! Some of these were shockers, but some of them I can reflect and understand why my body felt the way it did when I ate them.
This can go one of two ways, I can either complain and vent and cry over it or I can educate myself, learn, and grow. Yes, I tend to see that “I can’t” and want to grumble and be sad, but learning to make them in a healthy way will be so much more rewarding for my body. Yeah, who doesn’t love a piece of dark chocolate with carmel—got a dairy free alternative?! I am a picky eater and I know for me I am going to have to learn to be a lot less picky and really try those foods that I can have so I can embrace this new life.
So, today after I got home and cleaned out all the stuff I can’t have anymore. I got online to find recipes for what I can have. There are a lot of resources for paleo and I am going to have to research and learn more about product labels. I want to make my body better and not hurt or be bloated all the time. I am so glad that I have an amazing doctor through OPT to help heal my body. So, the journey continues with a few more bumps in the road, learning how to fuel my body in different but more effective ways.
